The majority of visitors enter New Zealand through the gateway city of Auckland, that has the largest population.
So for many visitors it’s their first and last impression of the country.
Some only stay one or two nights, before spending a lot of their time traveling further afield in an attempt to see all the main tourist sites.
There is a lot of things to do in Auckland, so if you don’t want to spend a lot time sitting in a car, bus or plane traveling up and down the country. You could spend a week in Auckland and not run out of things to do. You can get some ideas by looking at the list of activities on What Things To Do In Auckland Activities
There’s something for most interests ranging from:
Sightseeing, including looking at the view from the top of the Sky Tower, for those who are comfortable with tall buildings.
Or if you want to keep your feet on the ground go to the top of either Mt Eden, which is slightly closer to the CBD or the top of One Tree Hill.
Thrill seeking. This pastime ranges from Bungy jumping of the harbour bridge, to jumping off the Sky Tower, ( starting to sound like we’ve got an obsession with jumping of high things!), to those who need speed in the form of Luges, or Go karts, through to speedway.
If you’ve got children or people who want a more sedate approach, then there’s something more suitable such as Museums, the Zoo, and Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater world, where you can see penguins, and a wide range of marine life, without even getting wet or cold!
If those options are too sedate, then there’s Rainbowsend Amusement Park, or paddling a kayak at Fergkayaks.

Then if you want to enjoy some of our great beaches, there’s one to suit most preferences. On the east coast we’ve got a family friendly, calmer type of beaches. If you like a wilder surfer type beach, then head over to the west coast. Check them out here Auckland beaches
