Below is a full list of beaches between Onehunga & Jenkins Bay.
The beaches between Onehunga and Jenkins Bay start at-
Orheheus Drive Reserve - Close to the industrial area of Onehunga. It has a sandy foreshore for about 100 metres long, with an adjacent grassed picnic area with two picnic tables and one bench seat. There's a concrete boat ramp beside it.The motorway is within hearing distance.
Hillsborough Bay ( Taylors Bay )- Has a sandy foreshore about 75 metres long. With adjacent grassed area, with a number of picnic tables and bench seats. Also there is a children's play ground with swings, a slide, and a see saw. There's also a carpark and public toilet.
Grannys Bay - Accessed from Bagley Street. Has about 100 metres of sandy foreshore. There are sharp shells that may cut bare feet.
Aldersgate Reserve Access - There's a secluded small bay down a bush track with sharp shells that may cut bare feet.
Kingswood Terrace Reserve - At the end of Aldersgate Road, gives access to a pleasant coastal walkway with some small secluded bays, that have sharp shells that may cut bare feet.Some people fish along here at high tide. I saw a couple of fishermen with Kahwai and Trevally. There is also low tide only access to Wesley Bay, Faulkner Bay, Waikowhai Bay and Cape Horn Road.
Waikowhai Park - Accessed off Hillsborough Road. Gives vehicle access to Faulkner Bay ( Boat Bay ) and walking access to Waikowai Bay through the park from the car park by the children's play ground, toilets and lookout area. Waikowhai Park has gates that are locked daily. They are open 7.00a.m to 7.00 p.m. 1st April to 19 October. 6.00.a.m to 9.00.p.m 20th October to 31 March.
Faulkner Bay ( Boat Bay ) - Has a sandy foreshore near the high tide mark, getting muddy at low tide. There is a boat launching access to the beach with a car park adjacent. Including a picnic seat and rubbish bin.Waikowhai Bay can be accessed from Faulkner Bay ( Boat Bay ) at low tide by walking right from the car park.
Lynfield Cove Reserve - Is accessed from Gilletta Road. The foreshore is about 50 metres long, with driftwood debris, a rock retaining wall, storm water outlet and muddy water. The adjacent reserve has about an acre of flat grassed area with a children's playground with two swings a slide and see saw.There's a picnic seat and a bench seat and a dog poo bin.
Flounder Bay - Accessed form Lewis street.Has a concrete water access ramp, with adjacent car park. It's a narrow tidal bay with mud flats at low tide. Avondale South Domain is to the west, that has walkways connecting to Sandy Bay ( Sandfly Bay).
Blockhouse Bay Beach or (Sandy Bay ) or ( Sandfly Bay ) - Sandy Bay or Sandfly Bay names that appear on various maps don't seem appropriate, because at low tide theres mud flats, and I didn't notice any sandflys. The alternative name Blockhouse Bay Beach Reserve is more appropriate. The best vehicle access is off Endeavor Street, where there is a car park. It has a sandy foreshore at high tide about 50 metres long. There's a children's adventure playground structure, benches, picnic tables, rubbish bins and public toilets. There's also a sailing club building, with two concrete hand boat launching ramps ( No vehicle beach access).
Green Bay - Accessed off the end of Portage Road, where there is a public car park.Has a sandy foreshore about 100 metres long with some sharp shells that may cut bare feet. There's a flat grassed area with a picnic table, a coin operated barbeque, public toilets.The Karaka Park coastal walk runs along the top of the cliffs at Green Bay.
Wood Bay Reserve - Has a gated car park. The gates are open 1 October to 31 March from 7a.m. to 9.00.p.m.1 April to 31 September.The foreshore is sandy at the high tide mark becoming silty with sharp shell at low tide. The beach is about 100 metres long depending on the tide.There is an adjacent grassed reserve with bench seats. There was a flock of Oystercatcher birds on the foreshore.There is a concrete vehicle access to the foreshore for small boat launching.
French Bay - Has about 100 metres of sandy foreshore, with sharp shells that may cut bare feet.There's an adjacent car park.The western end of the bay has the French Bay Yacht Club and a Coast Guard Building, with three concrete boat ramps. Parade Road beach - Has difficult access down a small road with no parking. The foreshore is about 40 metres long at high tide and has sharp shells that may cut bare feet.Nice to have at the end of your road, but not a destination beach.
Titirangi Beach Reserve in Paturoa Bay - Is accessed along Titirangi Beach Road.It has a foreshore about 120 metres long at high tide, sandy at the high tide mark becoming silty with sharp shells towards the low tide mark which is quite a long way out.There's about three acres of flat grassed parkland, with picnic tables and a children's playground including swings, see saw and slide.There's a car park nearby.
Davies Bay - A five minute walk through bush to the foreshore,from Paturoa Road. The sand is about 50 metres long at high tide, with shells and pebbles down to the low tide mark.
Herrings Cove - Accessed down a walkway. Has about 40 metres of sand at high tide, with a shelly, pebbley to rocky foreshore at the low tide mark.
Jenkins Bay - At the end of South Titirangi Road - Has concrete vehicle foreshore access onto sand at low tide where you could lauch small boats with adjacent carpark. There would be almost no foreshore at high tide. There is an adjacent Alex Jenkins Memorial Reserve with a public toilet.The next page following the coast is
