Auckland water transport.


Auckland water transport started when the first settlers arrived by boat, and ever since boats have been an important form of travel.
Today there is a wide range including ferries, water taxis and charter boats available.
The main hub of ferry services is from the historic Ferry Building at the bottom of Queen Street.

Ferries.
- About 10,000 residents live on the Hauraki Gulf islands and demand is growing for ferry services from the North Shore, Half Moon Bay and the upper harbour.So ferry services are being developed to reduce the city's congestion, and therefore, are becoming an increasingly important form of transport for both residents and tourists.

Fullers ferries operate to the following destinations:

There are commuter ferries that go to the following destinations. -
Bayswater Marina, approximately 15 minutes from the city,
Birkenhead, approximately 15 minutes.
Devonport, approximately 12 minutes.
Half Moon Bay, approximately 35 minutes.
Northcote point, approximately 15 minutes.
Stanley Bay, approximately 15 minutes.

There are ferries that travel to most Hauraki islands, including -
Rangitoto Island.- 25 minutes.

Motutapu Island -on selected Sundays.

Waiheke Island - 40-50 minutes (some ferries go via Devonport which makes the journey slightly longer).

Great Barrier Island - approximately 2 & 1/2.

SeaLink's ferries go to Waiheke and Great Barrier.

Water taxis.
Reubens Water Taxis, in Warkworth and Auckland operate a service from Sandspit to Kawau Island.
Wharf to wharf at a time that suits you - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
Reubens Water Taxis also run regular ferries to and from Auckland Viaduct, Devonport, Rakino Island, Motuihe Island & Islington Bay.
They can also arrange a taxi charters for anywhere on the Hauraki Gulf.

The Hauraki Gulf and its numerous large and small islands with spectacular coastal scenery are very attractive for summer-holidaying residents and overseas tourists.
