Useful Auckland information.

Basic Auckland information:

It is New Zealand's largest city and has a population of over 1.2 million, nearly one third of New Zealand's entire population.

It has three harbours, two of which almost cut through the North Island. With over 50 islands. Making it an ideal place for water activities.

It is one of the few cities in the world to have harbours on two separate bodies of water.

The central part of the urban area covers a narrow isthmus between the the Waitemata Harbour on the Pacific Ocean, and the Manukau Harbour on the Tasman Sea.

Its unusual geography and humid, warm climate has created a lifestyle that's often ranked in the world's top ten.

Auckland's layout makes it easy to quickly change from one activity to another. In half an hour you can be picnicking on an extinct volcano, sailing to an island, tasting wines at a vineyard, hiking through the rain forest, or wandering a wild, black sand surf beach.
